Introduction to Cisco 7200 Series Routers

Today I am going to talk about the Cisco high end routers which is very much famous before Cisco launches the Cisco ASR 1K series. These routers are very powerful routers in past indeed and many of the customers and industries still have running.

These routers are now End of sale and End of Support now, we are generally using Cisco 4k Series as a replacement or Cisco ASR 1k, ASR 2K as replacement for these router as an enterprises routers in the MPLS domain.

This provides enterprise and service provider customers with easy-to-order solutions to meet their WAN/MAN edge services aggregation networking needs

The industry's most widely deployed universal services aggregation router for enterprise and service provider edge applications, the Cisco 7200 Series router offers:
  • Exceptional price/performance: The new NPE-G2 Network Processing Engine aggregates services at up to 2 Gbps
  • A wide range of connectivity options and numerous features including serviceability and manageability
  • Increased VPN performance with the new VPN Services Adapter
  • Increased scalability and flexibility with the new Port Adapter Jacket Card

Benefits of Cisco 7200 Routers

  • WAN edge: Esteemed quality of service (QoS) feature performance
  • Broadband aggregation: Up to 16,000 PPP sessions per chassis
  • Multi-protocol Label Switching (MPLS): Leading choice for provider-edge deployment
  • IP Security (IP sec) VPN: Scalable to 5000 tunnels per chassis
  • High-end customer premises equipment (CPE)
  • IP-to-IP gateway support: Provides a network-to-network interface point for signaling interworking (H.323, SIP), media interworking, address and port translations (privacy and topology hiding), billing and CDR normalization, and bandwidth management (QoS marking using TOS)
  • Voice, video, and data integration: TDM-enabled VXR chassis and voice port adapters
  • Modular design: 3RU footprint with broad range of flexible, modular interfaces (from DS0 to OC-3)
  • Flexibility: Support for Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, Packet over SONET

Multi service capabilities-The Cisco 7200 VXR Series router delivers a ascendable voice gateway solution, extending from 2 to 20 T1s and E1s. The innovative QoS and multi service structures of the Cisco 7200 VXR Series builds it an ideal platform in a huge number of enterprise and service provider dispositions as managed multi service CPE or as a voice gateway.

Managed network services CPE- The Cisco 7200 VXR router is a profitable CPE solution with a field up gradable modular platform. Key features for revenue-generating facilities include QoS, MPLS (MPLS VPN, MPLS QoS, MPLS TE), WAN edge services (VLAN support, NetFlow, NBAR), Security services (NAT, ACL, hardware encryption for VPNs), and voice/video/data integration.

Enterprise WAN aggregation-The Cisco 7200 VXR router provides a flexible aggregation solution that accommodates a wide range of connectivity and service options, offers high quality and reliability, and can scale to meet future requirements. The Cisco 7200 VXR's router performance per price ratio in the DS0 to OC-3/STM1 range makes it the ideal platform for aggregating multiple branch offices or remote locations.

IP-to-IP Gateway Support-Direct IP-interconnections between VoIP networks lower costs, lower latency, improve voice quality, and offer greater flexibility to support emerging services when compared with public-switched telephone network (PSTN) or time-division multiplexing (TDM) interconnections.

The Cisco Multi service IP-to-IP Gateway provides a network-to-network interface point for:

  • Signalling interworking (H.323, SIP)
  • Media interworking (DTMF, fax, and modem)
  • Address and port translations (privacy and topology hiding)
  • Billing and CDR normalization

  • QoS and bandwidth management (QoS marking using TOS)
