Juniper High End Routers PTX5000 and PTX3000- The Mighty
Juniper is one of the market leaders of Router products and is widely used in the enterprise networks across the globe. Whenever there are talks about the high end Core routers in the network, designers are come up with the solution of Juniper PTX5000 or Cisco NCS 6000 Routers. I knew if you are talking about the Edge routers there are models available and they are like Cisco ASR 9922 and Juniper MX2020 but today i am talking about the Juniper model PTX5000 which is more capable and powerful then that of Juniper MX2020 router.
Demands are increasing day by day, network are growing. with the demand the applications has huge effect and enterprise networks are moving from physical to virtual. those are the days when enterprise networks have their own applications hosted in their datacenter environment. I knew it is still there but people or enterprise networks moving to host their applications on the cloud.
Cloud is very big name now a days, whenever some one ask about the cloud always thinking its next generation networks where all of the network is managed and monitored by the service Providers. Now all the traffic comes in the shell of service providers.
These much of traffic day by day increasing with the security threat. Security is the main concern in the cloud network as well. I knew all these product companies are now concentrating on the security physical boxes. Cisco, Palo-Alto, Checkpoint and Fortinet are very much aggressive in this space but with the physical firewall boxes, enterprise networks also required the other security features in the space like Web security, Mail Security, Proxy, ATP and so on.
We have different scenario in different environment, people are looking for the next generation devices so that it can fulfil the future needs. In the core on the routing part, one of the best option is Juniper PTX5000 routers or Juniper PTX3000 series routers.

PTX3000 Series Router : It is a 22RU rack space router. PTX3000 can support 80X100 Gbps interfaces in a single chassis.The PTX3000 enables service providers to build a Converged Super core architecture that optimises LSR, Internet backbone, peering, and optical convergence applications for smaller regional deployments. It has been said by Juniper networks that PTX Series routers support game-changing 50 ms redundancy switchover under load. If we are talking about the physical dimensions of Juniper PTX3000 Series router, the dimensions are as :17.6 x 38.5 x 10.6 in (44.7 x 97.8 x 26.9 cm). The weight of this router is approx 140.61 Kgs, it is a heavy metal in its size and domain. It is front or center rack mount chassis.
PTX5000 Series Router : Juniper PTX5000 series router is one of the huge and big monster in his domain. The PTX5000 focus is on the Converged Super core architecture for service providers, which is optimised for LSR, Internet backbone, peering, and dense 100 Gbps optical- coherent DWDM applications for large, high-speed, massive- scale networks. At 3 Tbps per line-card slot, the PTX5000 supports 24 Tbps of total system capacity. The PTX5000 scales to 24 Tbps in a single chassis, breaking out into 1536 10GbE, 384 40GbE, and 240 100GbE interfaces. The PTX3000 scales to 8 Tbps in a single chassis, breaking out into 768 10GbE, 192 40GbE, and 80 100GbE interfaces. If we are talking about the physical dimensions of Juniper PTX5000 Series router, the dimensions are as :17.5 x 62.5 x 33.1 in (44.5 x 158.8 x 84.1 cm). The weight of this router is approx 587 Kgs, it is a heavy metal in its size and domain. It is front or center rack mount chassis.
Above are some of the specification which describes these heavy metals in their categories and is widely accepted in many of the enterprise networks or even service providers in the core. Choose your router as per the requirement and design your network accordingly with the help of future needs at least of 3-5 years.
