LAN is called as Local Area Network and the device used for these kind of connectivity device used is Switch. So all the end devices like Laptops, Desktops, Printers and other end user devices connected to switch by wires or by wireless ( for wireless connectivity, there is a device called Access Points come into picture and will be discussed in later post)

So Switch is the device where all the edge of the L2 traffic consolidates and then all of the L2 Traffic send to the device called Router which converts that L2 Traffic to L3 and send to other WAN devices through which it can be connected to other LAN networks.

Basic LAN Topology

So above is a LAN topology showing the core, distribution and Access switches with the end user devices and the wireless devices. There are lot of Switches used in the market according to the needs of the customer ( Small Scale with less users, Mid Scale with more Users and High Scale with high Users). The Switches have different capabilities and features according to there uses in the infrastructure you choose.

There are lot of Major players in the market for LAN segment as well, We have Cisco, Juniper, Huawei are the main players who provide various models of Switches for the various use cases and the with the demand of the customer network.

Hope you are clear with the concept of the switches and the importance of the devices in the LAN network, Stay connected, we will come with the more posts in later stages with the specified needs and the demands of the customers.
