Comparison Cisco 9922 Vs Juniper MX2020
Today I am going to compare the Cisco and the juniper devices. In our comparison we are going to take four different devices and these devices are Cisco ASR 9922, Cisco ASR 9912, Juniper MX2020 and Juniper MX2010. These are one of the biggest models with very high throughput.
Cisco ASR 9000 Series
Cisco has various models in Cisco 9000 series devices which includes Cisco ASR 9922, Cisco ASR 9912, Cisco ASR 9910 and Cisco ASR 9904.Cisco ASR 9000 series are designed to deliver the high scalability, performance, and fast convergence required for today’s and tomorrow’s demanding video, cloud, and mobile services. These features provide exceptional scale, service flexibility, and high availability.

Cisco ASR 9900 Series Carrier Ethernet applications include business services such as Layer 2 VPN (L2VPN) and Layer 3 VPN (L3VPN), Internet Protocol television (IPTV), Content-Delivery Networks (CDNs), and mobile backhaul transport networks.
Features supported include Ethernet Services; L2VPN; IPv4, IPv6, and L3VPN; Layer 2 and Layer 3 Multicast; IP over Dense Wavelength-Division Multiplexing (IPoDWDM); SyncE; Ethernet Operations, Administration, and Management (EOAM) and Multi-protocol Label Switching (MPLS) Operations, Administration, and Management (OAM); Layer 2 and Layer 3 Access Control Lists (ACLs); Hierarchical Quality of Service (H-QoS); MPLS Traffic Engineering Fast Reroute (MPLS TE-FRR); Multi-Chassis Link Aggregation (MC-LAG); Integrated Routing and Bridging (IRB); Cisco Nonstop Forwarding (NSF) and Nonstop Routing (NSR); Point-to-Multipoint Traffic Engineering (P2MP-TE); Lawful Intercept; Smart Call Home (SCH); and Multi-gigabit Service Control (MGSCP).
Juniper MX Series
MX2020 chassis provides redundancy and resiliency. All major hardware components including the power system, the cooling system, the control board and the switch fabrics are fully redundant.
The MX2020 router is 45 rack units (U) tall. One router can be installed in a four-post rack or cabinet. The MX2020 router has 20 dedicated line card slots which means a maximum of 20 Modular Port Concentrators (MPCs) including adapter cards (ADCs), and Modular Interface Cards (MICs), a host subsystem consisting of 2 Control Board with Routing Engines (CB-REs), and 8 Switch Fabric Boards (SFBs).
Up to 2 MICs can be installed in each MPC. Fully populated, the MX2020 router supports up to 40 MICs.
The MX Series router has been optimized for Ethernet services. Examples of the wide range of Ethernet services provided by the MX Series include:
- Virtual private LAN service (VPLS) for multipoint connectivity—Native support for VPLS services
- Virtual leased line (VLL) for point-to-point services—Native support for point-to-point services
- RFC 2547.bis IP/MPLS VPN (L3VPN)—Full support for MPLS VPNs throughout the Ethernet network
- Video distribution IPTV services
- Ethernet aggregation at the campus/enterprise edge—Supports dense 1-Gigabit Ethernet, 10-Gigabit Ethernet, and 100-Gigabit Ethernet configurations, and provides full Layer 3 support for campus edge requirements
- Ethernet aggregation at the multiservice edge—Supports up to 480 1-Gigabit Ethernet ports or 48 10-Gigabit Ethernet ports for maximum Ethernet density along, with full Layer 2 and Layer 3 VPN support for MSE applications
