Cisco Catalyst 9400 Switches - A new Launch

As in my earlier article i talked about the new launch of the Cisco catalyst 9300 and explain the features of that catalyst switch. Now I am going to talk about the other 2 series which Cisco launches. Cisco understand the requirement of the market and also competing with the other vendors for Next generation networks like SDN where open APIs can be used to stitch third party applications.

Cisco come up with the solution for the campus where they are going to deploy the fabric network on the top of traditional IP network. I will come up with another article where I can explain the architecture of the SD-Access network for the campus network designed by Cisco Systems.

With the launch of Cisco 9300, 9400 and 9500 cisco is running ahead in the field of enterprise network architecture.

Now let me talk about the other two series of switches launched by Cisco Systems for campus or enterprise network named Cisco catalyst 9400 and 9500 switches.

Cisco Catalyst 9400 Switch:
With the help of Cisco catalyst 9400 switch you will achieve Advanced persistent security threats, huge growth of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, mobility everywhere anytime and cloud adoption which actually requires a network fabric that integrates advanced hardware and software innovations to automate, secure, and simplify customer networks.

You can use Cisco Catalyst 9400 series switch at Distribution or access layer. For SD-Access connectivity in the core Cisco launches another switch series and that switch is Cisco catalyst 9500 series.

With the Cisco catalyst 9400 series switch you guys can scale up to 384 access ports with your choice of 1G copper UPoE and PoE+ options. Cisco 9400 series catalyst platform will also supports advanced routing and infrastructure services, SD-Access capabilities and network system virtualization. These features enable optional placement of the platform in the core and aggregation layers of small to medium-sized campus environments.

The amazing Cisco Catalyst 9400 Switches having an industry-leading supervisor engine built for secure networks, IoT applications, next generation mobility and cloud adoption. The Supervisor Engine-1 or called SUP1 is basically built on the latest Unified Access Dataplane 2.0 (UADP2.0) ASIC future-proofed for next generation technologies with its programmable pipeline, microengine capabilities and template-based configurable allocation of Layer 2, Layer 3, forwarding, Access Control Lists (ACLs) and QoS entries.

There are two models of Cisco catalyst 9400 switch and these switches are :
  • Cisco Catalyst C9407R Chassis : It has 7 number of slots; 5 line card slots; 2 supervisor engines; dedicated supervisor engine slots are 3 and 4;  Maximum POE+ support is 2880 Watts; Maximum Bandwidth scalability per line-card slot is 480 Gbps on all slots.
  • Cisco Catalyst C9410R ChassisIt has 10 number of slots; 8 line card slots; 2 supervisor engines; dedicated supervisor engine slots are 3 and 4;  Maximum POE+ support is 2880 Watts; Maximum Bandwidth scalability per line-card slot is 480 Gbps on all slots.
I will talk about Cisco 9500 Core switches in another article and I will come up with the design with the Cisco 9500 in the core, Cisco 9400 in the aggregation layer and Cisco 9300 in the Access layer.
