Cisco New Launch : Cisco Catalyst 9600 Core and Modular Chassis
Today I am going to talk about new launch of Cisco Catalyst series as Cisco Catalyst 9600. As per talk earlier on Cisco Catalyst 9200 (Access Switch replacing Cisco 2960 models), Cisco Catalyst 9300 (Access Switch replacing Cisco 3850 switches), Cisco Catalyst 9400 (Modular Chassis replacing Cisco 4500 Switches), Cisco Catalyst 9500 (Fixed Core switches replacing Cisco 4500X, Cisco 6880X models) and now Cisco 9600 (Modular chassis replacing Cisco 6500/6800 modular chassis).

Cisco Catalyst 9600 switches are combined with open APIs of Cisco IOS XE and programmability of the UADP ASIC technology, Catalyst 9600 Series switches give what we need now with investment protection on future innovations.
What are the capabilities of Cisco Catalyst 9600 switches as far as throughput is concern?
The Cisco Catalyst 9606R chassis is hardware ready to provision a wired switching capacity of up to 25.6 Tbps where you can say that you can have the capability up to 6.4 Tbps of bandwidth per slot.
Cisco Catalyst 9600 Series switches support granular port densities that fit diverse campus needs, including nonblocking 40 and 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GE) Quad Small Form-Factor Pluggable (QSFP+, QSFP28) and 1, 10, and 25 GE Small Form-Factor Pluggable Plus (SFP, SFP+, SFP28)

How many models are available in Cisco Catalyst 9600 Core modular switches?
Well at this point of time Cisco comes up with only one model in Cisco Catalyst 9600 and this model is Cisco Catalyst 9606 with 6 slot chassis where 2 slots are dedicated for Supervisor engines and 4 slots are line card slots.

Here if we consider line cards, it comes up with the two different kind of line cards, one-line card with 48 port 25G/10G/1G and other line card with 24 port 40G/12 port 100G. Apart from it you can have the SSD storage up to 960 Gbps.
